New Zealand Landscape Collection - Cape Reinga/Te Rerenga Wairua

If you haven?t been to the farthest northern point of New Zealand, I highly recommend you do, as experiencing existential moments is one of the joys of being human.

This is one of many photos I captured this day in January, and it was a tricky decision on which image would become a tea towel. I wanted to choose a different location, one that was marked by an ancient Pohutukawa tree just around the corner from the lighthouse. Out of respect for all M?ori and their ancestors, I did not, for this area is sacred and marks a passage for the spirits of the deceased as they bid their last farewell. The lighthouse is iconic, and upon seeing it, you will know where you are. It is also a place where you can say farewell to your own loved ones and perhaps to beliefs and attachments that no longer serve you.

ABOUT THE COLLECTION
Ng? Manu ? Birds of Aotearoa & Landscapes of New Zealand
Ali Davies and artist (and friend) Moira Sun collaborated on a series of birds endemic to New Zealand and iconic landscapes from photos of Ali?s during her travels. These have been created especially for Ali?s linen collection. Ali loves Moira?s delicate sensibility that tells a story as well as capturing a moment in time.
